President Muhammadu Buhari Will Address The Nation From The Eagle Square, Abuja, On Thursday, October 1, 2020, As Nigeria Commemorates Independence Day.
On October 1, 1960, Nigeria attained the status of an independent nation after the British Union Jack was lowered and the green and white flag was hoisted.
Femi Adesina, who is the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, says
The Eagle Square is the main square in Abuja, the capital of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is located in front of the Abuja International Conference Centre. Its name “Eagle Square” comes from the fact the square has an eagle shape. It is directly across from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
“The live address will commence after the anniversary parade beginning at 10am which will be covered by major television and radio stations especially the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
“Please note that in view of the open-air live address, the traditional early morning October 1 Presidential Broadcast will not feature on Thursday.”
